Swim Run Race Series - Race 3 - January 2007

Well, this was my second attempt at this race. I enjoyed it more than I did the first time, I was feeling rather better, no doubt that helped.

I set off by myself for this one, the weather forecast was awful and it was very, very cold. My cheering committee opted to stay at home. Mind you, the forecast was for hail! Driving over the Pennines to get there was unpleasant, but I got the best of the day once I was there. They thought they'd made the right decision, the weather at home was awful. Over in Nantwich the weather was great, very cold, of course, but bright, sunny and very pleasant.

The 500m swim went pretty well, I felt good. The pool seemed very busy and I did get slightly held up by other swimmers, but the overall time was okay. I completed it in 10:29.

The 5K run alongside the river was lovely on a day like that. I felt good. Had a bit of a mishap with a group of dog walkers who appeared to think they had a right to the entire path at once! There were 6 or 7 of them standing across the entire path chatting, runners were heading for them from both directions and they made no move until people had had to stop. Even once they'd moved aside a little their dogs were still in the middle of the path, I ended up having to hurdle a small terrier! I think it'd be fair enough to say we could all get on with our business, dog walkers and runners alike. Still, the run was done in 30:27 not too bad all things considered.

My overall time was 40:56, I was disappointed to be slightly slower than last time, but I enjoyed the race and felt pretty good for having done it.
